THIRSTY 17 (Laitinen / Zarling)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling discuss Hosea 8-12. We discuss how the vulture was flying over the nation of Israel because they had left the Lord. This was a symbol of their death. We then wondered if the vulture is flying over our nation for the same reason. .

THIRSTY 13 (Zarling / Laitinen)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling examine Galatians 5-6 and 1 Corinthians 1-3. We discuss the yeast of false doctrine, the humility of calling someone to repentance while not being caught in the sin of pride ourselves, the foolishness of the cross and living lives of sanctification. There is some Ant-Man discussion, too. We also discuss the wonderful mystery of fudge-covered Nutter Butters!

THIRSTY 12 (Zarling / Laitinen)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling examine Amos 9 and Galatians 1-4. We discuss how we cannot escape God’s judgment, the twisting of Scripture to fit a narrative, and the blessings of justification and redemption. For your geeky side, we also reference “Avengers: End Game,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “The Princess Bride,” and “Knives Out.”

THIRSTY 8 (Zarling/Laitinen)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling examine Jonah 4, the prophecies of Joel and 1 Thessalonians 1. One of the things we discuss is how the book of Jonah ends with a question causing us to examine our own hearts. God is a gracious and compassionate God. He has compassion and grace upon us. He wants us to share that grace and compassion with others.

Examine your heart. Why are you not sharing God’s grace with others? Is it laziness, apathy, indifference, busyness, anger, fear, or something else? Bring those attitudes to the Lord of grace and compassion. Let his love wash over you. When you are once again appreciative of God’s grace and compassion to you for Jesus’ sake, the Holy Spirit will move you to have that same kind of grace and compassion upon others. … Hopefully without covering you with fish vomit first.

THIRSTY 7 (Zarling / Laitinen)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling discuss Mark 15-16 and Jonah 1-3. We discuss the importance and application of Christ’s death and resurrection to our Christian faith. We also discuss not being territorial with the gospel, as Jonah was in not wanting to share God’s grace with the Ninevites.

We compare the Mount of Transfiguration to Mount Calvary. Pastor Laitinen disagrees with Mount Calvary being called a mountain. Let’s just say that he’s wrong. 😊

THIRSTY 3 (Zarling / Laitinen)

Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling discuss the weekly Bible reading. As we discuss Solomon’s words in Ecclesiastes 7-11, we talk about brewing beer (again), safety third, the blessings of being young, and the perspective of not getting too frustrated or too angry – just trusting that God is in control. Pastor Zarling waited 3 whole episodes before he discussed Star Wars!

We thank Abbie Laitinen for setting us up with real recording equipment for this episode!

THIRSTY 2 (Zarling / Laitinen)

As Pastor Laitinen and Pastor Zarling discuss Solomon’s words in Ecclesiastes 2-6 they talk about brewing beer, Batman’s list of villains, cold feet in bed and how everything is meaningless under the sun. Everything is meaningless … unless God is with us in faith and sanctified work under the sun.

As Pastor Laitinen says about the podcast, "We may not talk about 'deeper' things. But they'll at least be 'different.'"
