Getting Ready for Baby

A pregnancy is an exciting time for a family! A new child on the way. Picking out a name. Baby-proofing the house. Making sure the nursery is ready.

But, were Mary and Joseph all that excited with the baby that was going to be born to them soon? Pregnant before marriage; the risk of the engagement being broken off; traveling to Bethlehem; no room in the inn; etc. Perhaps their excitement was a bit dulled.

Advent is a season in the Christian Church Year that helps us focus on the coming of Christ. (Advent is Latin for "coming".) Our Lutheran churches offer midweek Advent services to give us more opportunities to prepare for Christ's coming. These services are a wonderful opportunity to reinforce in our churches what your students are learning in our classrooms.

This Advent, let us once again show our excitement to welcome the Baby Jesus into our homes, church, and lives. Don't allow your faith to be dulled by the busyness and pressures of the Christmas season. Get ready for the Baby Jesus by focusing on the promise, the name, the location, and the nursery of this special Baby.

We are excited, because this is a Baby that wasn't meant only for Joseph and Mary. This is a Baby that is for the world! For you!
